Service delivery is best summarised as follows:

Individual Work:

Direct assessment of the child/young person in the learning environment

• Psychometric testing (e.g. literacy, numeracy, dyslexia, cognitive functioning, attention/concentration)
• School based observations and consultation
• Family and community consultations
• Professional report of assessment findings and where appropriate providing ‘expert’ psychological advice to meet the criteria for further statutory assessment (Sections: 7.13 and 7.15 Code of Practice)

Formal intervention:

• Managing behaviour within/outside the classroom using evidence based approaches and strategies
• Providing contextual support to learners with difficulties
• Individual therapy using evidence based Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and other models such as Solution Focussed Brief Therapy (SFBT) and counselling

Consultation/liaison with staff, parents and the young person to improve outcomes

Group Work:

• Consulting with teachers. Teaching assistants and learning mentors about difficulties affecting a young person or groups of young people e.g. attachment, social, emotional, behavioural or teaching issues.
• Supporting staff in undertaking work to bring about change for a young person/people
• Group work with young people e.g. developing resilience, social skills etc
• Group therapy e.g. managing anger, managing anxiety/stress and transition
• Undertaking parent workshops e.g. supporting early learning through play, managing sibling rivalry, supporting learning at home, communicating with teenagers

At a whole school level:

• Consulting with staff about organisational issues e.g. planning for critical incidents, behaviour policy development
• Developing the role of professionals in schools e.g. SENCo, BECo, Learning Mentors and TAs
• Evaluating and advising on the implementation of interventions and programmes e.g. behaviour policies
• Raising awareness and developing practice around specific needs e.g. Autistic Spectrum disorders, ADHD, ODD, PDA
